Today we're having a more relaxed post, as I won't be basically teaching anything but just showing what I was wearing on my nails during this month of January. I will not make a full on tutorial on any of the looks but I will share glimpses of the process behind the nails. Don't hesitate on telling me if you like one of these looks enough to make a full on tutorial, it would be extremely helpful as I'm not the best with coming up with ideas!
First off, this is a bit of cheating but I will count the nails I started the year with, even if I painted these last year:
The manicure is simple layering of several different shiny effects. I like passing years with the shiniest and sparkliest nails possible, and this year I decided to layer over Holo Taco's retired Everything is Pine, a green holographic glitter. I sealed this polish with a top coat to help create a slightly smoother surface, as glitter tends to suck up top coat, so I didn't want my toppers to be the ones suffering this.
Over it, I have put Holo Taco's Everything Taco, to cover myself with iridescent flakes and more holographic. I also wanted a bit of shimmer, for those low lit situations, so I added a bit of Holo Taco's Celestial Lights on top. And it's not shiny enough if it's not reflective, so I layered Holo Taco's Reflective Taco. And sealed this monstrosity again with another layer of top coat.
On January 11th, I decided it was time for a change and I was kinda obsessing over Alien Infatuation by Holo Taco, so I tried to make some nail art with it:
I wanted to keep it in that grey tone, so I played with matte versus shiny. Over Holo Taco's Alien Infatuation I applied a matte top coat, and freehanded details with Holo Taco's World's First, as I wanted to make the two greys clash with the sheen. I honestly don't even know how that style of nail art is even called, those swirls across the nail in chrome, specially on lighter colours. It's something I see quite a bunch and it was my time to attempt it for the first time. And honestly, I liked it but it felt like it's not my usual style.
I got some rhinestones these holidays, too, and these particular ones were quite close in tone to the shimmer in Alien Infatuation. You might not notice, but I would love to have a shimmer or a flake like this polish has in it. Yes, I have green shimmer and flakies, but those are a more pure green, even leaning on cool toned. This shimmer is warmer, and that's basically the reason I wanted to play around with it now. I know, I'm quite specific with my polishes sometimes.
Rhinestones are not usually my thing, as they usually fall off in some days, and that bothers me, so that's why I changed it on January 18. I was feeling very adventurous, I had an incentive of trying watermarbling... so I went for it. Honestly, I am impressed with the results. It... worked!
